The #SaveUkrainianHeritage project was initiated by the Skeiron team with the aim of preserving Ukraine's cultural heritage through its digitization. The initiative involves creating accurate three-dimensional (3D) models of architectural and cultural monuments that are under threat of destruction or damage.

In the context of the full-scale invasion and regular damage to historical and cultural sites, the relevance of the digital preservation of cultural heritage is growing. According to the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, since the beginning of the full-scale war, over half a thousand cultural heritage sites have been damaged or destroyed. The #SaveUkrainianHeritage project is aimed at minimizing the consequences of such losses.

Project Objective

The main goal of the project is to create detailed digital models of architectural and cultural monuments for:

  • Documenting the current state of the objects.
  • Facilitating further restoration and reconstruction in case of their damage.
  • Preserving historical memory for future generations.
  • Popularizing cultural heritage among the general public.

Implementation and Scale

The project covers a significant part of the territory of Ukraine, prioritizing UNESCO sites and monuments of national importance. Over 100 digital models of architectural monuments have already been created in Lviv, Kyiv, Chernivtsi, Zhovkva, Kamianets-Podilskyi, and other cities. One of the most large-scale objects was the architectural complex of the Residence of Bukovinian and Dalmatian Metropolitans in Chernivtsi, where more than 3,000 scanning stations were deployed.

The team collaborates with heritage protection institutions, local self-government bodies, and international organizations, including the ALIPH Foundation, POLONIKA, and IKGS München. Thanks to this support, regular scanning of new objects is conducted.

Future Use of Digital Models

The digitized models become the foundation for restoration, reconstruction, and scientific research projects. In the future, there are plans to create a specialized resource accessible to professionals, researchers, and restorers.

Participation and Project Support

Professional surveyors, volunteers, and international partners are actively involved in the project. At the same time, there is an opportunity to support the initiative through financial contributions, informational support, and active participation in the project.
