Holy Ascension Church
About object
In 1796, F. S. Rakovych, a Bunchuk Comrade, later a Collegiate Assessor, and a representative of a Cossack colonel family, built a new Holy Ascension Church. The names of the craftsmen who built the sanctuary remain unknown. In 1805, the church was consecrated. The bell tower was built separately from the church. A magnificent choir functioned at the church. The church was unheated ("cold"). In 1846, a heated ("warm") church was added to the northern side of the building. Musii Kryvoruchko, a serf peasant, created the carved iconostasis. The icons, which were copies of works by Italian painters, were painted by a relative of the Rakovych family, the amateur artist Kochubei. During the Soviet era, the church fell into decay and served as a granary. In 2010, the first Holy Ascension Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate in the Chernihiv region was opened at the church. The church is built in the Classicist style. The doors of the church are open 24/7.
