Lviv State Circus
About object
The Lviv State Circus is an iconic domed centric structure located on a historical site where a two-mast circus tent was first mentioned in 1948. The main building, with an auditorium that accommodates 1,758 spectators, was erected in 1955, and it acquired its modern appearance after a reconstruction in 1965–1968 based on a project by architects Arnold Bakhmatov and Mykhailo Kanevskyi, with landscaping and interiors designed by Vasyl Kamenshchyk. Architecturally, the building is distinguished by two-story recreation and cloakroom premises located along its perimeter, a prominently highlighted one-story entrance area, and adjacent service and hotel zones. On the night of March 23, 2011, a fire covering over 100 square meters broke out in the dome section, which was complicated by the dome's structure, but the circus fully resumed operations a year later.
