The "Territory of Terror" Memorial Museum of Totalitarian Regimes is a municipal institution in Lviv, created on the initiative of the city council in 2009 and built during 2014–2016. Its main task is the research, comprehension, and presentation of the tragic pages of mid-20th century history in the context of contemporary challenges. The museum is located on the territory of the former ghetto (1941–1943) and transit prison No. 25 (1944–1955), which determines its focal themes: the transformations of urban space as a result of Nazi and Soviet violence, as well as human experiences in extreme conditions. The museum serves as a platform for dialogue and discussion around the traumatic events of the past and present in order to build a tolerant society, and it is an example of the memorialization of controversial heritage. Its main areas of activity include exhibition and educational projects, artistic interventions, cooperation with specialized institutions, and the documentation of oral history testimonies about tragic events starting from the 1930s.
